	RapidAd Delivery was developed in 1999 in order to accommodate a growing number of advertisers who requested an electronic delivery method.
RapidAd is a Web site that provides the desktop publishing professional with a fast and reliable way to transfer a digital file to the Pennysavers. The site can be accessed by any client who has internet access by using any web browser and typing in the URL.
Adobe Acrobat PDFs are the preferred file format for submitting any digital ad file to the Volusia Pennysavers. The PDF format not only offers a tremendous compression (which makes it ideal for the internet), it also embeds all fonts and art. A PDF file, prepared properly, can be used by advertisers despite differences in Operating Systems and Application Programs. It is quickly becoming the standard for file transfers because of its size and dependability. It is vital that your job options in Distiller be set up correctly. These illustrations demonstrate the Newsprint Job Option settings needed for quality reproduction. The Job Options settings in Distiller are the same for the Mac OS and the Windows OS. The adjacent pictures show the correct settings for Acrobat 4.0 on a Macintosh computer. In the Mac "Chooser," it is important to use the Acrobat Distiller PPD file as your printer description for the "virtual printer." See Fig.s 1-5 for general configurations of Job Options.
LINE ART RESOLUTION For quality images, scan line art at 1200 dpi. This minimizes the "jag-gies" and results in crisp, smooth images. Line art may fill in with excess ink, have a bitmapped edge and lose quality if enlarged too much. The amount a piece of art can be enlarged varies with each piece of art. Clean, sharp lines can be enlarged more than poor quality, broken lines. Avoid using art that will have to be reduced to less than half size or enlarged more than 200% of its original size. ENLARGING AND REDUCING HALFTONES Use 85 line screen and scan halftone images at a minimum of 150 ppi (pixels per inch) for new-sprint quality. We recommend 200 ppi. Do not enlarge a halftone more than 120% or reduce a halftone by more than 80% in your page layout program. Doing so reduces the quality of the re-production. Images become pixelated when en-larged too much and create more dot gain when reduced too much (darker pictures). TYPE OVER SCREEN BACKGROUNDS OR GHOSTED BACKGROUNDS For the best results and readability, it is suggested that type NOT overprint a background screen or a ghosted image greater than 20%. This allows for dot gain and will provide the necessary contrast between text and the background. TYPEFACES - SERIF OR SANS SERIF? Sans Serif typefaces are the best choice for news-print reproduction. They easily reproduce with desired clarity and readability. Type faces with thin or delicate serifs and strokes, and non-uniform character thickness, should be avoided. Extremely fine strokes can drop out in the conversion process while extremely thick strokes can fill in because of the ink gain on newsprint. For clarity and readability, The Volusia Pennysavers recommend using 8 point type or above on your advertisement. Small type tends to lose definition on the press when printing on newsprint.
Don't use them. Graphics retrieved directly from the web do not have the resolution needed to render a quality image. Web graphics are generally 72 dpi and graphics for newsprint need to be at least 200 dpi (dots per inch). Of course, websites that offer downloading of high resolution graphics are the exception.	* Be sure to check the resolution of a graphic before including it in your ad file.

The Volusia Pennysavers use the Macintosh computer to produce all of its ads. PC files should be submitted to us as .tiff, .jpg or .pdf files (using the job option settings for newsprint). All files must use 85 line screen and be scanned in or saved at 200 PPI. Do not use art from the internet! It often has a resolution of only 72 dpi and sometimes even less. 1. Compression formats that we can accept are StuffIt .sea files (self-extracting) and Zip files. 2. The following formats can be submitted to us: .jpg (if you use this format, please tell us!!); .tiff; .eps; pdf (using the Newsprint job option settings); some original MACINTOSH application files. 3. The Volusia Pennysavers accepts original ad files using MACINTOSH application programs.
